  Dorian Cope's excellent website provides a daily glimpse at history through a slightly more revolutionary prism than many of our history books are willing to offer. Sometimes it commemorates people and events which have all but been forgotten. Other times it offers a new perspective on a familiar theme. At all times it's worth reading. I'm honoured to be an occasional contributor to this wonderful archive.

• Blogs in hiatus

  Blogs come and go. People lose interest, or they no longer have enough time, or they move to another venue. The websites in this list are ones that have not been updated in a while but which still hold the tantalising promise of revival at some stage in the future. On top of that they warrant a link because there's still an awful lot of good writing to be found in the archives.

  • Biroco Journal
    This irregularly updated journal by writer, sorcerer and excellent drinking-partner, Joel Biroco, contains some of the finest writing on the web.
  • Dust on The Stylus
    As well as blogging over at Bristling Badger, Merrick runs a sporadically-updated music blog which I hope to promote back to the main blogroll in the near future.
  • Random speak
    L once delighted the internet with witty updates from Florida. Then there was a spate of excellent collages. And then, sadly, just silence.
  • Cows in Movies
    Another of Merrick's online projects, this one's been down for so long it seems unlikely it'll rise again. But we live in hope.

    Need a drummer? Need a percussionist? Need Adam? Look no further!
  • Head Heritage
    There's a lot more to Julian Cope than the music. And there's a lot more to his website too. But it's a starting point, eh?
  • Strawberry Switchblade
    There was precious little information to be found online about 80s pop band, Strawberry Switchblade. Merrick rectified that.
  • Radio Savage Houndy Beasty
    Music, humour and high weirdness from the Leeds-based coolective. MEAT!

  • Glad to be Gay

    Zali makes some of the best spaced-out music this side of Orion's belt.

    Dr. Leggett is a petroleum geologist whose site provides an excellent newsfeed of peak oil and energy crisis related stories. Well worth a bookmark.
