It was a bit of a PR stunt. No resistence reported, only a couple of US soldiers killed by ‘indirect fire’, meaning mortars.
In the background there are reports of US marines executing a family of 11.
Iraqis say US raid on home killed 11 family members.

White house press secretary, Scott Mccleallan said ‘No-one said that combat operations weren’t ongoing, those operations continue’.
There are 130-150 thousand troops of the original 160 thousand troops deployed still in the field, and still no government ruling Iraq.
So no continuity problems with the White House line then.

Whilst you’re on the subject, do check out The Dumbest Shit Ever, one of the most wonderful sustained bits of ranting I’ve ever come across, precisely why I love blogs.
