Psychoanalytic Studies
I’ve been admitted to the M.Phil course at Trinity and will be starting in a week or so. My first lecture is — I think — Tuesday 9th October, and will be on “Existentialism and psychoanalysis”. It appears that my disastrous interview didn’t sink me after all.
This is good news.
Hey, congrats! Sounds like an interesting course…

Cheers Doormat. I’m looking forward to it, and — from my point of view — right now I can’t think of a more interesting course. I’m a little worried that my views might appear a tad radical now they’ll be splashing around in the academic mainstream. But that’s one of the big reasons for taking this course… I want my ideas rigorously tested. How else can I know whether I’ve got them right or not?

Congratulations, Jim. I hope it’s as challenging and interesting as it can be.

Jim, I hope you will blog some thoughts about your course. I for one know nothing about psychoanalysis, so it would be interesting to have a few “introductory” blog posts, as it were.

Thanks Rachel. And Lucas. I’m expecting to enjoy it after an initially bumpy start. Having been freelance for the past few years I’ve pretty much set my own timetables and they didn’t always coincide with regular office hours. But once I get used to having an imposed schedule again, I imagine it’ll be both challenging and enjoyable.
And I do indeed hope to cover psychoanalysis in far greater depth on this blog over the next year, Doormat. It’ll be a useful place for organising my thoughts if nothing else.
