A personal note

April 13th, 2010 | 10:13pm by Jim Bliss

Blogging will be rather light over the next couple of weeks. As you may have noticed, I’ve been trying to post more regularly of late (a combination of having time on my hands and a decision to be more disciplined with my writing… I’m committed to spending a certain amount of time every day writing; depending on my mood it might be working on fiction, the book of essays I’m putting together, or this blog).

However, the lovely Citizen S and myself will be getting married in a week and a half (I know! Who’d have thunk it? And so long as I can keep her from sobering up for the next ten days, it should actually happen). It’s going to be a very small (non-religious) affair and most of the planning and organisation is already done. All the same, I imagine I’ll have less time than usual to sit around in my dressing-gown posting stuff here.

I’ve got articles in the drafts folder that probably only need a few more minutes, so hopefully activity here won’t come to a complete halt. But do expect a lull for a couple of weeks.

Oh, and wish us well!

  1. Congrats! Long and happy life to you and the prospective missus.

  2. Excellence! Happy horses and carriages to you both.

  3. Best wishes to you both!

  4. And you tag this as “miscellania”? :)

Congratulations, Mr Grufty, sir. Hope it does for you what it did for me.

  5. Fantastic news. Congratulations and many happy years for you both.

  6. Many thanks for the well wishes, folks. I can’t say as I ever expected to be getting married, but I’m very happy about it now that I am.

And you tag this as “miscellania”?

Well, Paul, I figured a “I’m getting married” category wouldn’t be used much after this post.

  7. Congratulations! I’m very happy for you both and I hope things go off without a hitch. As it were.

[Completely off-topic and not sure if you're interested: my old blog is listed on your blogroll as "in hiatus", as indeed it is, but I've moved the whole edifice over to the new URL above. I remain a devoted lurker here :).]

  8. Thanks Rachel. I hope all’s well with you. I’ve updated my blogroll (and fixed the URL on your comment!) Glad to hear you’re still about.

  9. Jim.
I wish you lots of wellness in your marriage ceremony/life etc.
I loved getting married. It was a splendid party at which I got to choose the music, drink and eat nice things and to dance with a beautiful woman who I love dearly. A good day all round. I hope you both derive equal pleasure from the event.
    Peace and love,
    Richard

  10. Crikey and holy moley! Heartiest congratulations to you both.

  11. Many congratulations!

  12. Fucking ‘ell Jim, that was out of the blue (to me at least). All the best old chap!

  13. Thanks guys.

Unfortunately a volcano in Iceland is playing havoc with our plans (my future in-laws had flights booked for the end of last week… now we’re pretty much in limbo). All a bit stressful.

  14. I heard today that some of the airlines were up & running again for those routes, don’t know if that helps.

Also, might I be the first to say that an “I’m getting married” category is precisely the sort of thing this blog needs. It could be like your sunday food column or something: “This week i am ‘getting married’ to conservative leader David Cameron. Here’s photo’s of our cake”. That sort of thing. Reality TV’s on its way out. This could be big.

  15. It’s, hopefully, rather belated by now, but all the very best to bride and groom. Congratulations to you both.

  16. Thanks again, everyone, for the well-wishes. The volcano abated at the last minute and we were able to arrange flights for my new in-laws for the night before the wedding. The day itself went swimmingly with even the notoriously unpredictable Irish weather giving us its blessing.

And now I’m a married man. Yay.
